Daily Routine
AT WEAVERTHORPE WE WANT TO PROVIDE PLAY AND ACTIVITIES THAT ENCOURAGE CURIOSITY AND A DESIRE TO LEARN
Once your child is settled their key worker will take them on a learning journey, fostering their individuality.
As part of our continuous provision, at Weaverthorpe many of our everyday routines foster independence – all helping to develop school readiness. From findingtheir coat peg, taking off and putting on outdoor clothing, using the toilet independently, self-registration, accessing toys independently and much more.
Both our indoor and outdoor environment is used to provide good quality play. From outdoor learning on the neighbouring school site, baking club, creative activities, music and dancing and a PE programme, and Les Mills Born to move sessions to name a small selection.
We encourage and support celebrations, local events and familiar festivals. We believe that children learn by doing, creating and exploring what they like best. By bringing out their curiosity we hope to empower them and inspire in them the desire to learn and explore more.
WEAVERTHORPE HAS EXCELLENT LINKS WITH LOCAL SCHOOLS
Not only do the teachers come and visit the children in our setting but we also share ‘All About Me Records’ and where possible visit school with the children for Christmas Shows, assemblies and other events. This gives them the best possible chance of being ready for school, with a solid foundation on which to build their skills, when the time comes for them to leave Weaverthorpe.
WHAT WILL MY CHILD DO EACH DAY?
WELCOMING TIME – Welcome parents/carers and children into the Pre-School to start their session.
TALK TIME – This is part of the routine when the children and staff meet together in small groups to do wake and shake, exchange news, phonics time and have stories.
PURPOSEFUL PLAY TIME – The children make choices and decisions about where and what they would like to do in Pre-School and how they are going to do it. The children are encouraged to do whatever activities they choose and at this time are free to access in all areas of the Pre-School including outdoors, exploring materials, learning new skills and trying out their ideas. This is all achieved through a well planned provision and environment.
OUTSIDE PLAY FREE FLOW TIME – The Pre-School doors to the garden are open throughout the morning and afternoon sessions and the children are encouraged to play outside whatever the weather. They explore and investigate the learning environment, developing their skills of knowledge and understanding of the world. It also helps to develop the children’s physical skills.
SNACK TIME – The children choose when they would like to have their morning or afternoon snacks. They can access milk, water and a healthy snack in our milky bar area. This is a sociable time that promotes and helps independence, as well as helping to develop children’s communication and language and literacy skills.
SMALL GROUP TIME – This is part of the daily routine which includes activities that have been planned for the children by the Pre-School staff. The children will work in small groups with carefully selected activities which will help them to develop learning experiences towards the Early Learning Goals of the Early Years curriculum.
TIDY UP TIME – The children tidy away materials and activities they have been working with. This is a valuable learning experience for children, it develops their self-help skills and a sense of responsibility for their environment as well as encouraging them to co-operate with and help others.
CIRCLE TIME – This is part of the daily routine when all the children and staff meet together to do action rhymes, sing songs, play musical instruments, dance and have stories.
LUNCH TIME – Weaverthorpe follows our healthy eating ethos. Parents are encouraged to provide a healthy lunch box for their child and support our healthy eating policy.

HOME TIME – A notice board tells parents and carers what the main activities of the day were and what food was offered at the snack table. This information provides a starting point to talk to your child about their day. Children go home happy and will have lots to tell their parent’s/carers what they have enjoyed during their day at Weaverthorpe.
